I’m no stranger to hot hair tools. In fact, I’ve come to a point in my life that without them, my look isn’t really complete. Because I’m not blessed with gorgeous hair that I could get out of bed and straight out the door, I need to make use of these tools to put my look together in the mornings.

I get intrigued whenever I see a new hair tool in the market, and I’m always on the lookout for new and improved versions of such helpful hair products. So I’m always on the net, fishing for new hair products to try out. And today, I want to share my thoughts on a mini 2 in 1 hair straightener and curler from Babyliss (Model number MCS69PK) that I purchased from Qoo10.

Yes, this hair straightener is THAT tiny! As part of their compact series, the size of this mini baby is a great option for travel. I thought getting a portable hair tool would be beneficial for times like staycations, vacations or even times where I’ll need to help my boyfriend’s young nieces to doll up their hair.

Unlike a curling tong, how you use this tool as a curler differs from how you would use a hot iron tong. Instead of rolling the hair around the barrel, curling of hair with this 2 in 1 hot tool is similar to how you would curl your hair if you were to use a straightener. The only difference is that this baby has anodized curved side plates that are able to help curl more of your hair.

Unfortunately, there is an absence of a choice of heat and they only have an On/Off switch that raises the heat to 180°C straight away. On the flip side, the plates heat up rather quickly so no time is wasted waiting for the plates to heat up!

To demonstrate how it works as a 2 in 1 hair curler and straightener, I have curled a portion of my left side and straighten a portion of my right side.

I felt that it straightens pretty well! The plates glide through my hair decently without strands of hair getting stuck, which could be annoying. The heat is hot and thus able to produce great results. However, I would recommend to use a heat protectant before heat treating your hair.

A down side is that because this is a mini hot hair tool, the plates are of smaller size and thus require you to straighten in more batches.

As a curler, I felt it didn’t fair too badly as well! However, because the curve plates are only on 1 side, it could need some practising and some time before getting used to curling on the correct side. However, curls were bouncy and healthy looking.

The same down side would be due to the smaller size plates, I have to work in smaller batches and thus my curls were tighter and smaller. But still pretty nonetheless!

Also note that the spring of the tool is a little stiff. Thus, together with the small size of the curler/straightener, my hands got a little tired after some time.

After trying it on myself, I thought this would be suitable for kids and proceeded to try it out on my boyfriend’s niece!

AMAZING! The size fits kids perfectly so curls are proportionate to their heads. Doesn’t the curls sit gorgeously on her face?

If you’re interested, I bought this Babyliss 2 in 1 straightener and curler from a seller at Qoo10 for a total of S$24.90, with the product priced at S$15.90 and shipping at S$9. The item was shipped directly from South Korea but the delivery was rather fast, only around 4 days!

In conclusion, I think it’s a great tool to have in your stash but definitely not something that is a must-get.

Hi Rusty! So glad that I found your review of the babyliss. I also purchased the item from qoo10. However i have difficulty in using it. I try to use the curling method for straighteners but it does not work. The hair strand turn into weird C shape 😂 Can u show me how to achieve such a nice curls like above?
